In order to turn the ignition or respond to remote commands from a key, today's car requires authentication of a chip or transponder fob. When this authentication fails, it is time to re-program your key, and this service is carried out at the site of your vehicle rather than inside a dealer's office.
Fob causing troubles? Try this first
If your remote is dead, it doesn't necessarily need programming to fix it. It may just need a battery change, checking for signs of liquid or shock damage, and then a simple syncing process to get it going again. These solutions are explained in our article here about what to do if your remote fob isn't working anymore. If that isn't enough, then it may be due for programming.
If you purchase your fob online it needs programming first, because fob that you buy online are usually not cut or programmed until you bring them into our shop to have the fob blade cut and programmed.
